Celebrate the Snow and Ice at Winterfest Jan. 25 at the Minnesota Zoo

January 9, 2025

The magic of winter continues at the Minnesota Zoo with a new event, Winterfest, on Saturday, January 25 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Plus, that Saturday will be the first of three events this winter and spring that are just for adults, Zoo After Hours!

 Winterfest Features:

  • Located on Celebration Plaza, the Minnesota Zoo will embrace winter with a one-of-a-kind sculpted ice bar, serving up drinks with a frosty flair.
  •  How about the perfect treat to go with your cold drink? Eat a s’mores outdoors! Get toasty by the fire as you roast marshmallows for a sweet snack. S’more kits will be available for purchase.
  • If the fire isn’t enough to keep the chill at bay, warm up with hot dish at the Call of the Wild Café! Minnesota’s classic comfort food will be on special all weekend long.
  • Animals go with the snow! Minnesota weather is nothing to shy away from, especially if you’re an animal with a natural winter coat. Bundle up and travel the Northern Trail to meet cold-loving animals like bison, caribou, camels, and adorable Amur tiger cubs.
  • After your stroll through the snow, cozy up for storytime with local children’s author Heather Boschke as she reads from her picture book “Little Birdie Buddies.”
  • Keep those warm vibes going as you thaw and find awe inside. Explore the lush, 78-degree environment of Tropics Trail, or check out the underwater beauty of Discovery Bay, featuring five California sea lions.

Other Winter Activities at the Minnesota Zoo:

  • The secret’s out! The Zoo isn’t just for kids. Experience the Minnesota Zoo like never before at Zoo After Hours — evenings exclusively for adults! On January 25, March 15, and April 26, the Zoo is extending its hours so adults can unwind with the wildlife. Make it a memorable date night or a meetup with friends.
  • Walk the Treetop Trail and observe animals from above (winter’s bare branches provide even better views). The Treetop Trail will open each day by 12 p.m., weather permitting.
  •  If you’re a fan of birds and four-legged (or no-legged) creatures, you don’t want to miss Wings & Things! This 20-minute entertainingly educational program is held indoors daily at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Target Learning Center.
